GOLDEN LION HOTEL RESTAURANT "Goldenen Löwen"
A Little Romance of Bavaria in Baden-Baden
Looking
for a romantic holiday vacation hotel at a budget friendly price and
a little traditional
historic
color for a romantic getaway, cozy
bargain honeymoon in one of Germany's top resort towns? The
Golden Lion Hotel in Baden-Baden is a traditional Bavarian style “Gästehaus
Löwenbrau” the restaurant hotels planted throughout southern
Germany by the famous Munich based beer brewer. The Hotel Golden Lion
(Hotel zum Goldenen Löwen) is conveniently located in the romantic
old center of this quaint and colorful historic resort town nestled in
the Black Forest area of southwest Germany, a vacation destination for
the best of European society since the 19th Century.
Baden-Baden is still a very
upscale and exclusive luxury spa resort
destination with the therapeutic baths of Friedrichsbad and the roman
bath of Caracalla (see Friedrichsbad
Baden-Baden)
the Grand Casino, the opera and concert hall Festspielhaus, international
horse racing track, but to enjoy the pleasures of the wealthy doesn’t
require spending all your vacation holiday budget at one of the many
fine and
expensive resort hotels in grand Baden-Baden (see Black
Forest).
Originally
built before the turn of the last century with the rising popularity
of Baden-Baden
as a resort
and refurbished in 2003, the hotel
portion of the Golden Lowen upstairs from the restaurant has all the
modern comforts of a more luxury class property, with apartment style
bedroom
suites. The restaurant of the Golden Lion is styled of the traditional
heavy wood beams, hand-carved cuckoo clock interior
of a Black Forest inn. The Bavarian beer garden terrace overlooks on
the open central square
of Jesuitenplatz (Square of the Jesuits)
- so named for its position just below the historic monastery a few steps
up the hill. Within an
easy walk are all the sights of old Baden-Baden from the Roman Baths
to the Casino. The restaurant serves both Bavarian cooking and Black
Forest Bädish
food styles, but for the non-German traveler the distinction may be a
little esoteric,
since
the menu of a German restaurant is hard enough to interpret.
The
same hotel company also operates three other colorful traditional style
hotels within a short walk,
all central and easy on the budget, the Hotel Latern, one of the oldest
historic buildings in Baden-Baden is just across the Jesuit Square,
The Hotel Bischoff (a “Hotel
Garni” meaning no restaurant) adjacent the Kurhaus and Casino,
and the basic Gästehaus Pension Lohr.
Baden-Baden can be reached by
train from Stuttgart and Karlsruhe or by car on the A5 and near Strasbourg
and the Alsace region of France across
the Rhine River. The nearest airport is Basel-Freiberg and is served
by EasyJet and Condor
Airlines. © Bargain
