FILOU RESTAURANT & WINE BAR - BERLIN
Dinner by Candlelight in Charlottenburg

*Now Closed

Filou Restaurant SavignyplatzBerlin’s Savigny Platz is one of the green oasis parks of trees and flowering plants plopped in the middle of the bustling sprawling capital city. The park, in the Charlottenburg district, just an intersection of six streets near the western end of Kurfürstendamm was named for a Prussian State Minister Friedrich Carl von Savigny, is landscaped as a garden. The point of this, though, is not the city square, but the district which surrounds it, dappled with antique shops, trendy cafes and restaurants. One of these is Filou Restaurant and Bottega Del Vino, an intimate restaurant and bar run by twin brothers, with the atmosphere of a neighborhood hang-out filled with local regulars who come for the Italian inspired cuisine and the energy in the warm and comfortable surroundings of dark woods and stone, divided by wine shelves, made all the more intimate with the illumination by candlelight and chandelier.

Mediterranian WrapFor an evening out away from the crowded touristy areas of Berlin, take the S-Train to the west and get off at the Savigny Platz station, just exit from the western end down the stairs and you’ll find Filou steps away at Bleibtreustrasse 7, tucked into a neighborhood of several bars and clubs which cluster around the station. Across the street, you can sink your feet into the sand of a beach bar for a tall drink or a beer before dinner, or relax with the live piano music at Filou on weekends with your meal. Not as trendy as the Kreuzberg district on the former east end of town, the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf districts which get the names from the Charlottenburg Palaceand its former imperial resident (see Charlottenburg Old Palace) is the more upscale residential neighborhood from the days of old West Berlin, more relaxed than the student-hipster driven east, but being rediscovered by families and maturing millenials.

Guido Fohrweisser at Filou One local you might likely run into at Filou is German film and TV actor, Guido Föhrweißer, who lives in the neighborhood and stops in on occasion to enjoy a football match on the TV with his truffle lobster linguine and is more than willing to strike up a conversation. So go ahead and feel at home and you won’t be able to don’t say you don’t know anybody in Berlin. © Bargain Travel Europe
