places to stay in the Great Britain
ENGLAND Bargain Travel Europe
is based on the idea that travel is about discovery and to travel well,
you have to know where you want to go and what you
want to do. Here you’ll find the stories of destinations, things
to do, see, and tips to save in England.
Regions
Think
of travel in Britain as regions. The Heart of England and West of
London offers the Cotswolds, Oxford, Warwick and Stratford and Stoke-on-Trent
and the upper Thames River. Explore the North of England from Manchester,
Leeds or York, to the Lakes and the Peak District. The Midlands and East
of England takes you from Robin Hood’s Sherwood Forest to the historic
college town of Cambridge and villages of East Anglia. To the southeast
of London lies Kent and Sussex, with Bath and Bristol, Devon and Cornwall
to the southwest. Wales to the west.
Accomodation
Unique bed & breakfasts, guest houses, historic hotels in or near
castles, heritage towns and stately homes can be found all over the United
Kingdom, providing a memorable stay. Or if just looking to get about
and save money budget hotel chains like Premier
Inn and Holiday
Inn Express can be found in convenient locations with rooms from
around £30-45
a night.
Getting About
Britrail is
the main train system in Britain. Other trains are operated on some
lines like Virgin
Trains, mostly main lines to the north from Euston station. Rail
travel was born in England, making getting around the country without
a car
easy
and
commonplace,
though
the
rail
system
in Britain
is
laid
out with main lines extending out from London rather like the spokes
of a wheel, with different lines departing from various stations depending
on the direction you’re going. BritRail
Passes
offer
unlimited and flexible rail travel and discounts for families, seniors, and young
people. British friends or relatives can get 50% off as well. The Eurostar under
the English Channel gets you to France, Belgium and Holland in under
two hours.
Buses are
a cost effective alternative to cover long distances, often cheaper
than the train.
National
Express and Megabus offer
fares as low as £1 if booked in advance. If you prefer your own
wheels, Easycar
and
Sixt
have
competitive rates as well as Europcar, Hertz and
Avis.
Driving can be a great way to get off the beaten track, see the countryside and
visit those quant
little villages. The right hand drive if you’re used to the other
side takes a little getting used to, but you settle in after awhile.
The main auto routes are fast, and unlike France and Italy, toll-free.
Discounts
If you like history, England is steeped in it wherever you go. A Great
British Heritage Pass can
be a good investment, with the low price made up on as little as two
stops. For an overall 20% discount to many attractions, activities
and restaurants, the Discount
Britain pass is easy and totally free!
