Bridge of Spies Model at Berlin Spy MuseumThe Steven Spielberg-Tom Hanks movie “Bridge of Spies” has made the Glienike Bridge, which crosses the Elbe river between the western sector and East Germany at Potsdam, about twenty minutes outside of Berlin city famous, for its story of exchange of Soviet spy Rudolf Abel for American pilot Francis Gary Powers. The bridge gained its notorious label after a succession of exchanges that followed. The museum has a detailed scale model of the bridge where exchange of agents took place, orchestrated by the intelligence agencies of the Soviet Union, the United States, and their respective allies.

The museum is very popular and entrance is by timed ticket, so plan ahead. The museum if open from 8 am to 10 pm daily. The ticket is in the form of “burn after using” punch-card, which you will not want to burn, and through scanning machines.
