ICE AGE COMES TO LUEBECK
4th Annual Ice and Snow Sculpture Fesitval
Lubeck's
4th International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival is underway. Eight
trucks delivered 150,000 kilos of ice blocks of different sizes made
in Belgium
and Britain
were delivered to the Ice World construction site near the banks of
River Trave. After
the blocks arrived at the Ice World area, forklifts stacked
them into position for carving by an international team
of ice sculptors. Artists used ladders and scaffolds
to workin with chain saws before cutting the ice with more refined
chisels and picks.
The theme of this year's
Ice World in Lubeck is cold and comic - the lovable movie heroes
from “ICE AGE 2 - “The Meltdown”.
Manny, the wispy mammoth, Sid the Sloth, and Diego the saber-tooth tiger
will be continuing their adventures in this icy paradise along with
the mammoth-female Ellie and her two, cheeky opossum brothers, hoping
to escape together the snowmelt. Scrat the luckless ice-age squirrel
and his beloved acorns will also be at Luebeck.
The new location of Ice
World will now be at the Music
and Congress Hall converted during the 8 weeks into a chilly winter scene,
in front of the historic Old Town Peninsula of Hansiatic Luebeck in Schleswig-Holstein
north of Hamburg . The complex will house it's own ice
rink, toboggan run, and a cosy winter village, for hot cider at the Traveufer.
The 4th International
Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival runs from December 8, 2006 to January
28, 2007. The Festival is open
from Monday to Saturday,
10.00 am until 21.00 pm and on Sunday from 10.00 am until 20.00 pm. Exception:
Bank holiday: 24./31.12. from 10.00 am until 14.00 pm; 25./26.12. and
01.01. from 11.00 am until 20.00 pm. Price for adults: € 8.00 p.
