MAGNY-COURS RACE TRACK
Racing, Karting and Formula 1 Memories in Loire/Burgundy
The
French GP will no longer run at its home
for the last 19 years, the French Grand
Prix Circuit at Nevers Magny-Cours in central France. Bernie Ecclestone
has been hinting at a new venue, perhaps a street race in Paris.
How Parisians would react to steel barriers along the Champs Elysee
and Ferraris screaming across the Pont
Neuf, one can only imagine, though perhaps not that different
than Paris traffic already. But you can still get your speed
thrills
at the Magny-Cours
race track
in Nevers, France. The facility also hosts a rangeof other
racing events duing the year and offers a variety of car racing
and motoring fan entertainment
experiences.
Located
just south of the city of Nevers in Burgundy where it meets the Loire
in the village of Magny-Cours, just
off the A7 motorway, the race course
is about an hour and a half from Paris and two hours from Lyon in the
opposite direction and about an hour from Dijon in Burgundy. The
Nevers Magny-Cours facility actually consists of four race tracks. The
Grand Prix track is the main course
which has hosted the French GP
since 1991. A modern wide and fast circuit with grand stand seating.
The “Piste Club” track is a shorter and narrower road course
used for racing classes and car testing. On weekends a casual visitor
to the track can get into a hot Porsche and tear around the course under
instruction, at the Porsche Driving Experience. There is an off-road
track for moto-cross and atv racing.
The International Competition
Karting Track
is open all
year
around for
kart rental. They offer two levels of karts to rent 10 horsepower for
the beginner or 21 horsepower for the more experienced and a chance
to say you raced at Magny-Cours! The upper level spectator area allows
an
excellent view for friends family and loved ones to critique your style.
The facility is also available for corporate and group events.
The
Nevers Magny-Cours track was the home track for the Ligier F1 Grand
Prix race team, later taken
over
by Prost Racing. The Ligier / Prost
racing history can be seen at the track race museum, a monochromatic
celebration of racing – all the cars are Ligier
blue, with photographs of the drivers, Alain Prost, Jarier, Olivier Panis,
Jacques Lafitte,
and more recently Jean Alesi and Nick Heidfeld. The museum is located
at the center crossover bridge next to the track snack bar and just
a couple of euros to visit. © Bargain
