GREAT BRITISH HERITAGE PASS
Save on Seeing Britain’s Great Historic Sights
One
of the reasons tourists from around the world want to go to the British
Isles
is the centuries of magnificent history still embodied
in great houses, castles and museums. And one of the significant costs
of any travel budget is paying for admission to all the sights and attractions.
To save on sightseeing touring costs an all-in-one admission pass can
be a valuable tool for saving. In Great Britain, one of the oldest
and
most
popular
combined admission passes is the heritage pass. The
Great British Heritage Pass was established over 30 years ago by the
governmental
tourism organization VisitBritain, previously known
as the British Tourist Authority. The logistics of the pass itself is
operated by a private company the Leisure Pass Group – a tourism
specialist managing city tourist smart card systems for sightseeing passes.
The Great
British Heritage Pass provides
free entry to almost 600 attractions around
England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland including Stonehenge,
Edinburgh Castle, the Roman Baths, Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Hadrian’s
Wall Roman Museum, Harlech Castle, and a whole lot more. While the Heritage
Pass includes all the historic sites, castles and manors funded by the
National Trust, it doesn’t cover all the English historic sights
as many are still in private hands. The heritage pass is mostly for historic
type of sites and does not include commercial attractions like amusement
parks or sight-seeing tours. There are other discount type cards for
those. The Heritage Pass can pay for itself with a visit to only 2 or
3 listed locations, so is definitely worth purchasing if you have a historic
heritage bent. The Heritage Pass is probably most useful if traveling
outside of London. It does include several London offerings, but many
of the activities one might seek in London are more commercial venues
(see London Pass Discount Card).
The
Great British Heritage Pass can only be used by non-UK residents with
an
address
outside of Great Britain and is only available for purchase
online. The Great British Heritage Pass is most popular for UK visitors
from the USA, Canada, Australia , Japan and Germany. The pass comes with
a full UK road map showing all the locations and a detailed guide about
the places where the pass is valid. The passes are available for 4, 7,
15 and 30 days, for individuals or as a family pass for two adults and
up to three children under 15. The Great British Heritage Pass also adds
the convenience of allowing you to skip long lines at the more popular
spots like Hampton Court Palace or Blenheim Palace. You just show your
card and move ahead of the ticket line. The card has smart card technology
with an embedded chip which is activated when you first present it and
lasts for the designated number of days. You don’t have to worry
about figuring exchange rates or dig around for cash at every stop. And
with all the locations you’ll find in the guide, you’ll discover
those little gems you might never think of otherwise, just mark the map
and plan your journey to get the maximum value out of your trip. © Bargain
