BEER TOURING IN SALZBURG
Austria’s Historic Brewery City

Trumer Beer salzburgSalzburg’s history of brewing beer is more than 500 years old: It reflects a great love for enjoyment and a keen effort of procuring undisputed purity and quality. It has produced well-established beers and breweries of long-standing tradition. This in turn laid the foundation for the “young creatives”, the collection of new brewers that have been enriching beer brewing in Salzburg over the last decades. These days, the ten breweries in the area in and around Salzburg are not only producing the finest beers but also know how to celebrate the enjoyment of beer drinking in multiple ways: by introducing modern production techniques, by offering exceptional beer experiences, new creative styles and specialty beers. Beer lovers and gourmets have the opportunity to learn more about their favorite drink in seminars, guided brewery tours, walking tours of the old town, or in beer sommelier courses.

Salzburg is Austria’s secret beer metropolis invites exploration to find out more about one of the oldest beverages in the history of mankind and experience its fascination today. Discover the golden brew at historic breweries on your own, or take a guided tour.

Breweries

Stiegl Brewery
Bräuhausstraße 9
The first Stiegl beer in the “Brewhaus bey dem Stieglein”
(the “brewery house by the steps”) was brewed in 1492, the same year Columbus sailed. The Stiegl brewery has turned into Austria’s largest
privately owned brewery with beer production in only one location, a part of the city called “Maxglan”, using mainly Austrian raw ingredients and, of course, best spring water from the local Untersberg mountain. The brewery offers a tour of “the World of Brewing”. stiegl.at
Stiegl Restaurants: open daily 10:00am – 12:00 midnight
World of Brewing/Museum: daily 10:00am – 5:00pm (July, Aug. 7:00pm)

Augustiner Bräu
Monastery Mülln Salzburg - Lindhofstraße 7
The monastery of Mülln has been brewing beer since 1621 according to
a closely guarded secret recipe, applying the old art of brewing techniques. The monastery’s pub, the “Braustübl” is a popular meeting place both rich in character and tradition with a lovely garden and Austria’s largest beer restaurant where the beer is poured in steins straight from the wooden barrels. An arcade of small shops and market stalls, called the “Schmankerlgang” offers a variety of delicious local snacks. augustinerbier.at
Open Mon-Fri 3:00 – 11:00pm
Sat, Sun and holiday 2:30 – 11:00pm

Die Weisse
Rupertgasse 10
The brew pub in Salzburg-Schallmoos uses traditional recipes in a modern setting. The “die Weisse” is its pale yeast wheat beer produced in swing-top bottles since 1901. A variety of top-fermented draughts and specialty beers such as the “Jubilator” (a double bock beer) or the “Frizz” (a bock beer paired with champagne yeast) round out the taste experience. With its traditional-stylish interiors, “die Weisse” successfully combines old tradition with modern times, but Sudwerk, is a hip bar where the clubbing goes on till the early morning hours. dieweisse.at
Pub Hours: Mon-Sat 10:30am – 12:00 midnight
Sudwerk: Mon-Sat 5:00pm – 4:00am

Take guided tours with a master beer sommelier, experience hands-on brewing in “Kiesbye’s BierkulturHaus”, and party in the old beer cellar. Visitors are also invited to indulge in beer tasting menus at the brewery inn, the “Braugasthof Sigl”, and taste international vintage beers from their own cellars or the freshly tapped Trumer Pils from the beer fountain. trumer.at
