THE TRUFFLE FAIRY – THOMASTOWN
Chocolate Delights in County Kilkenny

Chocolate Truffels Candy Trays photoIs the Truffle Fairy a mischievous woodland sprite who leaves a chocolate treat under your pillow at night when you’ve been especially good? Well, not exactly. The Truffle Fairy is the name of the sweet kitchen shop in charming Thomastown, of Ireland’s County Kilkenny. Award winning Chocolatier Mary Teehan and her partner Gavin, opened their Chocolate Kitchen, Shop and Chocolate Café in 2005, moving operations from their home kitchen after the well-deserved rise in popularity of Mary’s unique creations from the local farmer’s market circuit to a collection of specialty gourmet shops and cafes. The little shop and kitchen in bright storybook colors on the street corner, located in Chapel Lane, just across from Thomastown’s impressive Norman era village church, offers a chance to sample sweets with a coffee, tea or a hot chocolate while exploring Kilkenny’s Craft Trail.

Chocolate Chip Flavors photoFormulating a selection of inspired flavors for high quality gourmet chocolates and truffles, and gluten free baked goods, everything at the Truffle fairy is made in hand crafted artisan style, combining ethically sourced ingredients, fresh cream, nuts, spices, finest liquors and natural flavors only. Beyond the traditional milk chocolate truffle, the kitchen features specialized flavors, goji berry, ginger and pink peppercorn, uniquely Irish inspired Guinness and Bailey's Irish Cream truffles, exotic ginger and chili, seasonal spiced rum and Christmas pudding truffles, and recently adding chocolate bars and chocolate bark, and winning the 2012 Gold Star Award for the “Truffle Fairy Chocolate Browny” at the International Great Taste Awards to go with the 2011 wins for the Chai Espresso truffle, Cardamom Orange truffle and Tequila salt lemon truffle.

The shop has a few tables inside the aromatic kitchen and sales counter, and some outdoors along the sidewalk when the weather is pleasant. During the week Mary and Gavin will be more than delighted to explain the techniques of perfecting the art of chocolate making for the touring visitor discovering the back roads of Ireland’s south east. On weekends the fairies of chocolate are away to farmer’s markets in Waterford and Dublin. © Bargain Travel Europe
